Things You'll Need:
- Dark Nail Polish
- Nail Polish Remover
-
Step 1
Apply two coats of dark nail polish, just don't get too close to the cuticle.
-
Step 2
Apply a top coat to make the dark polish less jarring and more shiny.
-
Step 3
Wait for your nails to be completely dry.
-
Step 4
Either clean up your nails by using nail polish remover and a Q-tip, or soak hands in water and the excess nail polish will easily come off of skin with a little effort with a washcloth.

on 8/24/2009 Be aware, even with a good base coat, dark colors may stain the nails orange. If you normally wear a french manicure or other light color, it may take some time for the stain to fade. Avoid the temptation to file or buff the stain off, it will fade naturally. If you normally wear color, the stain will be hidden.

on 8/24/2009 A $15.00 manicure accomplishes more than applying polish. A "polish change" is $8.00 and both are well worth it if you do not have the right tools (like a good base coat), the skills and knowledge (correct and healthy preparation of the nail surface), the time, or you just want to relax and let someone else do the work.
Nice polish on poorly shaped nails with shaggy cuticles does not look as nice as nicely painted nails (two base coats may be needed to prevent staining with dark colors, esp with cheap brands) on neat, manicured (yes you can do it at home too) nails.
