How to Make a Margarita

A fixture throughout Mexico, the margarita has many people claiming they invented this tequila-based drink. Some say it was created as a wedding present to a woman named "Margarita," while others say a bartender made the drink for a showgirl that was allergic to tequila. Regardless of its origin, the margarita still remains as one of the most popular drinks today. Read on to learn how to make a margarita. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2 oz. tequila
  • 1 oz. Triple sec
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • 1 tsp. coarse salt
  • Ice
  • Lime wedge

Instructions

    • 1

      Pour the coarse salt onto a plate or saucer.

      Moisten the rim of a margarita glass with the lime wedge and dip the glass into the salt until it coats the rim.

      Fill the glass with ice.

      Fill a martini shaker with ice and pour in the tequila, Triple sec and lime juice.

      Shake until the martini shaker is frosted with condensation.

      Strain the contents into the margarita glass and garnish with the lime.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make a "blended" margarita, simply put all ingredients into a blender with two cups of ice, blend until smooth and pour into the glass.

  • Bar supply stores sell margarita "rimmers" which have a sponge and receptacle to hold salt. These can be handy when needing to make margaritas in bulk.

  • Don't drink and drive.
