Q: I've already started getting small roles as an extra in TV shows, but I'm finding it difficult to get my name out there. I know if people in the industry start to recognize my name, it'll be easier to get more work. What's a good way to start meeting my peers and networking with the pros?

1. A: First, congratulations on becoming an extra! It's an important first step on your way to the top. Another step in the right direction is meeting the right people. Just as you said, networking is the best way to build your community of colleagues. So how do you do that? One of the best ways is to attend industry events. Live events are filled with not only your peers, but also Talent and Modeling Agents trying to discover unknown names and turn them into stars. It's also a great place to learn tips from the experts, and to ask your questions to the professionals who know best.

Events like InstantCast LIVE! offer talented and generally undiscovered Actors & Models like you a chance to get the advice you need to succeed and bump elbows with the professionals that can help make your dreams come true. At the InstantCast LIVE! event in November, our featured Modeling & Talent Agents picked up a few headshots and comp cards from attendees, and handed out business cards to rising stars.
3. You just never know who you'll meet at industry events. One thing is for sure, you won't have the same opportunities if you're sitting on your couch waiting for someone to knock on your door. So get out there and network your way to the top.
