Stay Cool at Coachella
Stay Cool at Coachella

The weather at Coachella can be incredibly hot. It's not uncommon for temperatures to reach 100 degrees. I remember in 2004, it topped out at around 105. Most of the people treated by medics at Coachella are suffering from heat-related problems. Don't be one of them! Follow these steps...

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat or bandana
  • Appropriate clothes
  • Misting spray bottle
  1. Step 1

DRINK WATER. Lot's of it. Stay hydrated. Water is $2/bottle at Coachella. Buy several. If you have a hat or bandanna on your head, soak it in water every so often.

  2. Step 2

FIND SOME SHADE. There's not a lot of natural shade at Coachella, so spend some time in the tents, or wherever else you can find shade.

  3. Step 3

DON'T WEAR TOO MUCH CLOTHING. Every year, I see a few poor kids wearing jeans and long sleeve shirts in the blazing sun. They look miserable. I say, go for comfort over style. But remember that the temperature does drop quite a bit after it gets dark, so maybe have a sweatshirt or something packed in your backpack.

  4. Step 4

HIT THE OASIS. This is a just a relaxing place where you can get out of the sun, and just outside of it there's a fountain thing you can stick your head under to get cool.

  5. Step 5

BRING A MISTING SPRAY BOTTLE. Technically, you're not supposed to bring these into Coachella, but I've gotten in with them before, and seen plenty of others with them too. Just a regular .99ยข spray bottle (which you can probably find in the travel toiletries section of your local Target or Wal-Mart) works great, but if you get one that has a built-in mini fan, even better! If you have one of these, you'll make a lot of new friends... strangers will walk up to you and ask you to spray them down.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't forget to apply sunscreen!
  • Don't forget the temperature DOES drop a lot after the sun sets, so have some extra clothing with you.
