The bar game Ship, Captain, Mate and Crew is very easy to play and a quick means to liven things up at an otherwise dreary or dismal bar. It can be played with as few as two players or as many as can fit around the dice. All you need are five dice, some opponents, and a memory or pad of paper for score-keeping. Here is how to play the bar game Ship, Captain, Mate and Crew.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dice
  1. Step 1

Decide who goes first. You can do this however you want, by high roll of the dice, low roll, or whoever’s birthday is next. It does not matter.

  2. Step 2

Roll the dice, and set aside and sixes, fives or fours. The idea is to get a six (ship), a five (captain), and a four (mate).

  3. Step 3

Roll again when you do not get the numbers. Each player is allowed three throws to get a six, five and four. However, they must be gotten sequentially. You can not get the four before the five, for instance.

  4. Step 4

Add up the score of the remaining two dice (the crew). When you did not get the six, five and four sequentially, then your score is zero.

  5. Step 5

The player with the highest score after each player has taken their three throws is the winner.

Tips & Warnings
  • The more people you can get to play the merrier. This is a social game especially considering its colorful name.
  • Some refer to this game alternatively as Ship or Battleship.
  • It is a fast-paced game, so if you’re betting drinks, be conservative.
