Equipping your automobile with a GPS unit is one of the most convenient (and safe) options available for cars in the last ten years. You can plan a whole trip, get directions when you are lost, find a nice place to stay for the night or grab a bite to eat. There are many makes and models of GPS, so if you have narrowed it down to Acer, follow these instructions to choose an Acer GPS model for your car.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  1. Step 1

Determine how much money you want to spend. The new units from Acer, run anywhere in the low to high hundreds for a price tag.

  2. Step 2

Look at online retailers for the best price. See when there are special deals or closeouts at large, online retailers for the unit you have chosen.

  3. Step 3

Check local auto and electronics stores for the best price. Sometimes local sales will beat out online retailers, so do not count them out.

  4. Step 4

Check to see if the Acer GPS unit you have chosen has service where you intend to use it. Not all units have service everywhere in North America.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most of Acer’s GPS units are in PDA form (they look like a pocket PC). They can all be used in your car, however, by simply adding a car holster accessory.
  • Acer is relatively new to the car navigation system market. If you’re committed to Acer, you can expect more models (and models only available in Europe) to be more widely available stateside soon.
  • Price and functionality are directly (and inversely) related. The more features you want, the more you’re going to have to pay unless you want to wait for the model you want to be a year or two old.
  • When comparing online prices to local prices, don’t forget to add in the cost of shipping.
