How to Choose Accessories to Prevent Dropping Your Cell Phone

Save

One of the most frustrating experiences in the age of the cell phone is when you drop your phone and you have to wait for the crunch as it heads for the asphalt. Phones are slick, small and slide easily into your jeans pocket. That is a great feature unless you are trying to hang onto it. Here is how to choose accessories to protect your cell phone from being dropped.

  • Buy a protective case. Almost every phone currently available has some kind of leather or plastic protective sleeve available to protect it against scratches and drops.

  • Buy a cell phone holster. You can buy a holster to clip on your belt, coat or purse which will conveniently and securely hold your cell phone while you're not.

  • Use a headset. Using a headset leaves the cell phone out of your hands and in your pocket, holster, backpack, etc. When you do not have it in your hands, you can not drop it.

  • Buy a car mount. You can add a suction mount to the dash of your vehicle which will hold your cell phone so you can talk on speaker phone or using a headset while you drive.

  • Buy a lanyard. You can purchase lanyards for cell phones which attach to the body of the phone. Just slip one end over your wrist and when you accidentally drop it, the lanyard will keep the cell from dropping.

  • Buy a larger phone. Phones have become smaller and smoother, when you do not mind having a larger phone, you can get one for less money and it will also be easier to hang on to.

Tips & Warnings

  • Around 10% of all cell phones experience some kind of malfunction in their lives. Keep your warranty and there is a very good chance you will be able to get it fixed or to get a new phone.
  • Do not talk and drive. Or do anything particularly complicated if you find yourself dropping your phone often.
  • Do not get your phone wet. It almost always voids the warranty and it almost always ruins the phone.
  • If you are prone to accidents, buy the extra warranty plan when you activate your phone. It will likely save you money down the road.
