Same-sex marriage is not currently legal in the United States, but activists all over the country—both homosexual and heterosexual—are working to change that. Here's how you can use your voice to advocate for gay and lesbian rights.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get informed. Read recent news articles on the subject and talk to gay and lesbian friends to make sure you understand what the primary issues really are.

  2. Step 2

Do a little research to out if there is a same-sex marriage-friendly politician in your state that can help your cause.

  3. Step 3

Write letters to politicians from the mayor of your city to the President of the United States. The Constitution gives you the right to free speech; use it.

  4. Step 4

Check the Internet for public rallies in your area that support same-sex marriage, and attend them.

  5. Step 5

Offer to help advocacy groups gather signatures on petitions.
