Most people know the "Kama Sutra" as a book of a sexual positions. However, positions are only discussed in-depth in part of the book. The remainder of this ancient Indian work offers guidance on how to be a good citizen and insights into people in relationships. The "Kama Sutra" describes making love as “divine union.” Studying it will help both you and your partner become closer, in a number of different ways.

Things You'll Need:

  • Copy of the Kama Sutra
  • Condoms
  1. Step 1

Get a copy of the "Kama Sutra." You can buy one online or at any bookstore. There are also many video versions of the book--or the jucier portions of it, at least.

  2. Step 2

Watch the video together with your partner or both read a copy of the book individually. Take notes on the aspects and positions you found interesting and encourage your partner to do the same. This will bring the two of you together in the pursuit of understanding.

  3. Step 3

Keep the book in your bedroom. Study the pictures again before you begin foreplay so you have a fresh idea of what you are going to do and how you need to do it. In some editions, the pictures are removable for easier viewing.

  4. Step 4

Establish an amount of time you will engage in each position; be open to using a variety of the 64 positions of the Kama Sutra. You can return to the ones you enjoyed in the future--for now, try to sample everything once.

  5. Step 5

Try each position as you and your partner see fit. Skip any that make either of you uncomfortable, and take notes on the ones you enjoyed. Check that your partner enjoyed it as well; if so, ask what you did to make it that way. You can apply these notes to later sessions.

Tips & Warnings
  • One of the first rules of the "Kama Sutra" is women are to be treated gently, not forcefully. A man should treat a woman like a flower; be delicate.
  • Be open with your partner. Make sure you are both comfortable and happy with your experimentation.
  • Use a condom to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Don’t coerce your partner into doing anything they aren't comfortable with.
