Things You'll Need:
- Costume
- Computer with Internet access
- Map of Cleveland
- Camera
- Accommodations
- Event schedule
-
Step 1
Choose an event. The big festival is Cleveland Pride, held annually in the middle of June. There are a number of smaller gay-friendly events held throughout the year. You can find them listed on the Web site of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Greater Cleveland (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Make travel arrangements. The city has two main airports, Hopkins International and Burke Lakefront, that together form the Cleveland Airport System and serve both the legacy carriers and several discount airlines. The city is easily accessible by rail, as it's the nexus of two of Amtrak's main lines.
-
Step 3
Pack. The city can become quite warm in June during Cleveland Pride, with a constant chance of thundershowers. Bring warm-weather clothes, but be prepared for cooler nights and the winds coming off the lake.
-
Step 4
Find a room. Cleveland has all of the usual chains of hotels and motels, though there isn't much in terms of gay-specific lodging.
-
Step 5
Plan your activities. Most festivals post a schedule of events on their Web site, which can be found using any search engine.
-
Step 6
Check out the local scene. The city has a growing number of bars and clubs that cater to the gay community, and they'll be hopping during Cleveland Pride.
