How to Enjoy a Gay Pride Festival in New York City

Whether you are gay or lesbian, or just support the rights of your fellow human beings, and you live in New York City, you can celebrate gay unity by attending a pride festival in the Big Apple. This is one of the oldest gay parades and festivals in the country.

1. Visit the Website for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) to find events in New York and join the advocacy community (see Resources below).
2. The festival includes a parade, parties throughout New York City, a fireworks display, entertainment at theaters around Manhattan, guerilla theaters performances, political rallies and other events. To find out more call: 212-807-7433.
3. The kickoff rally for the march, an event featuring performers, drag queens, cheerleaders and speakers usually takes place in Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan.
4. Disco dance marathons are the rage during the NYC Gay Pride Festival. You'll find listings for venues in The New York Blade, a gay alternative weekly publication, and online with CitySearch. The Village Voice is also an excellent resource for Gay Pride events.
5. Several NYC hotels such as Millennium, The Muse and W offer Pride Week packages.
