If you want to find a nude beach in Massachusetts, you have two primary options: a river beach in the western part of the state and beaches on Cape Cod.
If you are planning to spend your day in the western part of the state, plan to head to Cummington Beach on the Westfield River, just south of Rte 9. After you park, you'll need to make a quick trip through the woods and across the river. Settle down on the small beach.
If you are planning a trip to Cape Cod, you will have more options for finding a nude beach. Truro Beach in Truro is easily reached. Stop at Town Hall to obtain the necessary parking permit. Truro Beach is located at the end of Long Nook Road.
Herring Cove is located in Provincetown. Follow Rte 6 all the way out to the tip if the cape and follow signs for Herring Cove. Pay the parking fee, enter the beach through the left entrance and walk as far down as you'd like.
While not on Cape Cod, Moshup Beach at Gay Head Martha's Vineyard is a nude beach where all are welcome. Take the ferry trip from the Cape to Martha's Vineyard and head to Gay Head Point. When you enter the beach, you will initially see people and families all clothed, but as you walk further down, you'll find the nude beach area.
Tips & Warnings
- Be considerate. Nude beaches are for everyone, including families.
- Though Herring Cove is commonly used as a nude beach, it is not a state-sanctioned beach. Lifeguards and police have been known to issue warnings.
- Cape Cod beaches become extremely crowded on the weekends and traffic backs up for miles at the rotaries at the beginning and end of the weekend.
