  1. Step 1

Decide how much money you want to spend.

  2. Step 2

Make a list of all the things your partner has mentioned would feel romantic to them or that you think would be romantic to do such as: having dinner at a fine restaurant, going dancing, or attending the opening night of a new play.

  3. Step 3

Decide on a date and time for the romantic evening out—if the evening is to be a surprise, ask your partner’s family and friends to help make it work.

  4. Step 4

Check in the newspaper, online or in the yellow pages to see which activities you had listed are available for you to choose from for your evening activities.

  5. Step 5

Decide what the evening activities will be and make all reservations and arrangements.

  6. Step 6

Make other arrangements such as ordering flowers or hiring a limo for transportation.

  7. Step 7

Let your partner know what the dress is for the evening activities.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you’re planning an “impromptu” surprise, make sure your partner will have access to clothes that are appropriate for the occasion—ask one of her or his friends to help pick out clothing.
