Step 1
Select a campsite. Theodore Roosevelt National Park has three campgrounds: Cottonwood Campground, Juniper Campground and the Roundup Group Horse Camp.

Step 2
Cottonwood Campground has 78 sites, a dump station, toilets, water, fire grills and a pay phone. It is open all year and costs $10 per night. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis for individual campsites.

Step 3
Juniper Campground has 50 sites with fire grates and picnic tables. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis for individual campsites. Flush toilets and drinking water are available from mid-May through September. The campground is open all year and costs $10 per night.

Step 4
Roundup Group Horse Camp accommodates 20 people with horses and 30 people without horses. You will find toilets, water and fire grills. The cost is $2 per person per night. The minimum group size is six people, and the maximum length of stay is five nights annually. It is open from May 1 to October 31, and you may make reservations beginning the first business day in March.

Step 5
Obtain a free backcountry permit from the Medora Visitor Center or North Unit Visitor Center in order to camp at non-established campsites. You will need to carry in all drinking and cooking water. There is a 14-day camping limit in the backcountry.
