Asshole is a card game that lets you boss around your friends and get drunk at the same time. When you play the drinking game Asshole, you end up with a rank, from President down to Asshole, and whoever is higher up calls the shots (literally). It seems like a complicated game at first, but you’ll pick it up fast unless you want to be an Asshole.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Four players or more
  • Alcohol
  • Deck of cards
  1. Step 1

    Gather four or more friends.

  2. Step 2

Create hierarchy. Create ranks for the number of people that are playing. For example, at the top have the President, then next have the Vice President, then next a Treasurer and then at the bottom have the Asshole.

  3. Step 3

Decide on the card rankings. Generally, the higher the value of the card the higher the rank. Aces are high. Pick one card to be the “power” card (usually 2).

  4. Step 4

Deal out 6 or 7 cards to each player.

  5. Step 5

Choose someone to play the first card. They’ll lead with any card from their hand and place it in the middle of the table. From there, go around the table either clockwise or counterclockwise.

  6. Step 6

Each player must play a card higher than the card that has just been played. If a player doesn’t have a higher card, he can pass.

  7. Step 7

Continue game play until everyone is out of cards.

  8. Step 8

Assign ranks to players. The first person to get rid of his cars is the President. The next person to go out is the Vice President and so on.

  9. Step 9

Make the Asshole gather the cards, shuffle the deck and deal.

  10. Step 10

Begin the next hand. The President leads off each new hand. The next in rank plays after him and so on.

  11. Step 11

Play your role. The President is top dog. She can make anyone under her drink after the cards are dealt, leads each hand and never has to refill her own drink. The Vice President is next in command. He plays second and can make anyone drink except the President. All the other players must obey their higher-ups.

  12. Step 12

Play as many rounds as you can endure. The ranks and roles change after each hand. Play until you run out of beer or you can’t drink anymore

Tips & Warnings
  • To keep track of the ranks, rearrange the seating after each hand to reflect the hierarchy.
  • The Asshole has to do anything that anyone tells him to do. He must refill all the drinks of the other players, plays last and has to do any other menial task that no one else wants to do.
  • After the President and Vice President play, the others play in the order that they ran out of cards.
  • If the Asshole needs assistance in his duties, the president can appoint a Vice Asshole (the second lowest ranked person) to assist him.
  • If you want to play with jokers, they are higher than an ace.
  • One additional rule: you can play two of a kind and then the next person has to play two of a kind, too. For example, the President plays two nines. The Vice President must play two cards higher than nine (two tens, two queens) or the power card.
  • All other ranks must obey.
  • Careful when being a tyrant—what goes around comes around. It pays to have friends in high places when you are the Asshole.
  • Know your limit. It’s hard to tell how drunk you are sitting down, so get up every now and then to see if you should stop.
  • Binge drinking can lead to long-term health hazards.
