How to Plan a Romantic First Date

There is only one chance to make a first impression. And, of course, you want it to be a good one. This could be the first date of the rest of your life, so you want things to be smooth and romantic. Just follow these steps and you will be on your way to planning a romantic first date.

Instructions

    • 1

Set a time for the date. Talk to your date and find out when they're free and willing to go out with you.

    • 2

Choose a setting for the date. When you know where they would like to go, muster up the courage to ask them to go out with you (dinner, movies, dancing, etc.). Otherwise, plan it together by simply asking what they would enjoy doing.

    • 3

Plan a surprise. When you are going to a movie, rent the theater out for the two of you. When you are going to a nice restaurant, reserve their best table and have the food pre-ordered.

    • 4

Always have a backup. Have a movie at your house or a little-known diner you can always fall back on if things go awry. Being Johnny or Joan-on-the-spot is romantic.

    • 5

Make it memorable. What makes a romantic date different from a normal date is that it is above and beyond. Write a poem or note for your date. Sing them a song. Do something you know they usually don't experience to make the date memorable.

Tips & Warnings

  • The classics are classic for a reason. Dinner, movie and a drink is great because it automatically gives you something to talk about (the movie) and practically forces you to sit close to one another (in case you're shy).

  • When planning your date, keep the person you are taking out in mind during each step. What would they think is special about a particular restaurant or karaoke bar?

  • Keep a flexible state of mind. When your date or yourself gets uncomfortable or wants to change the itinerary, go with the flow. Being stubborn is not romantic.

I agree with the other poster-a movie isn't always great. If you're meeting for the first time, why sit in a dark theater where you can't talk for 2 hours? Plan an activity-something you can do together. If it's a walk on the shore, flying a kite, or even watching a softball game, don't just sit there in the dark. Fancy restaurants the first time out do say "Please like me! Look at what I can do!" and sometimes the simpler, the better. Overall, be yourself. If they accept or reject you, you will know they did based on the real you, not some character you've created. Last but not least-have fun! It's not dental surgery, it's time spent with another interesting person, so enjoy it!

a Movie is Not always a great idea for a first date, because you don't get to do much talking, just sitting quiet. A romantic First date should be something Fun. ie. Skating, playing pool having a couple drinks, going hiking or walking, skiing, wine tasting, driving range, amusement park, zoo. Then a special place where you like to eat is nice too. Not a fancy place (as this can seen likee your trying too hard to impress him/her or they might get the impression your trying to buy them)
