When you first enter the beach, you will mostly find clothed families. You will need to travel to the right of this area to find the clothing-optional section.

Within the clothing-optional area, there are different beaches to choose from. There are homosexual, heterosexual, family, men only and women only sections. Of course, these areas aren't enforced by anyone; they just crop up naturally on their own.

The town of Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard permits public nudity on part of Lucy Vincent Beach, which is a couple miles east of Aquinnah (Gay Head). Parking is really tight, and visitors (even on foot) need a Lucy Vincent beach pass to enter the beach. (Some of the local hotels provide passes.) The clothing optional section is at the eastern end of the beach - turn left after you enter the beach from the parking area and walk at least 1500 feet. I went to both Lucy Vincent and Moshup in August 2008; ironically, even though nudity is officially permitted on Lucy Vincent, there were far fewer naked people there than on Moshup Beach, which officially requires clothing. -
