So you know how to skate backwards, do some basic tricks, and now you want to learn to do a loop...

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • figure skates
  • ice rink
Step1
Skate backwards.
Step2
Put your left foot in front of your right, while both are still in contact with the ice surface. Your weight should be predominately on your right/back foot. You should be leaning slightly to the right, so that you are slightly on your right-outside edge and left-inside edge.
Step3
Bend your legs and jump, pulling your arms in to cross your chest and turning over your left shoulder.
Step4
Pull in tight, hold your center, and do one, two, or three rotations in the air.
Step5
You should land on your right foot, gliding backwards. Your left foot is extended to the back, and your arms are firmly extended to the sides.

Tips & Warnings

  • These directions are for the right handed/footed figure skater. If you are left handed/footed, reverse the right-left directions.
