Before the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding begins, starting a marriage off on the right foot begins with a romantic marriage proposal. Traditionally, the man proposes, but women can propose too. The key is to make the marriage proposal memorable and romantic.

From Quick Guide: Ways to Propose
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Talk to your significant other about marriage. It is important that both of you be ready to take this step in the relationship.

  2. Step 2

Plan your proposal at a good time. You should have about a year to plan for the wedding. Most couples don't like to be engaged for too long.

  3. Step 3

Pick out the wedding ring. Sometimes a girl wants to be involved in the process, and sometimes she does not. Remember to insure the ring.

  4. Step 4

Surprise your significant other with the proposal in a way they will enjoy. If he or she is shy, planning to pop the question at a public event is probably not a good idea.

  5. Step 5

Add special touches to your proposal to make it unique and special. You can sing your significant other a song, read a poem, decorate his or her apartment or otherwise make the evening romantic.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can ask a girl's close friends or family members to help pick out the perfect ring.
  • Traditionally, the man asks his girlfriend's father for her hand in marriage. This is, of course, not always done today, but it is still a gesture that you can consider.
