How to Plan a Romantic Marriage Proposal

Before the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding begins, starting a marriage off on the right foot begins with a romantic marriage proposal. Traditionally, the man proposes, but women can propose too. The key is to make the marriage proposal memorable and romantic.

• Engagement ring
• Special touches (guitar, flowers, etc.)

1. Talk to your significant other about marriage. It is important that both of you be ready to take this step in the relationship.
2. Plan your proposal at a good time. You should have about a year to plan for the wedding. Most couples don't like to be engaged for too long.
3. Pick out the wedding ring. Sometimes a girl wants to be involved in the process, and sometimes she does not. Remember to insure the ring.
4. Surprise your significant other with the proposal in a way they will enjoy. If he or she is shy, planning to pop the question at a public event is probably not a good idea.
5. Add special touches to your proposal to make it unique and special. You can sing your significant other a song, read a poem, decorate his or her apartment or otherwise make the evening romantic.

• You can ask a girl's close friends or family members to help pick out the perfect ring.
• Traditionally, the man asks his girlfriend's father for her hand in marriage. This is, of course, not always done today, but it is still a gesture that you can consider.
