One of the most romantic parts of starting a new life as a married couple is spending the first week of it together on a honeymoon. Traditionally, honeymoons were meant as a way for couples to grow together while away from their normal lives, and friends and family were not told where the couple would be going.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hotel reservations
  • Transportation arrangements
  • Information about your destination
  • Special event tickets
  1. Step 1

Choose a romantic destination. Popular spots include the Caribbean, Hawaii, Florida and Europe.

  2. Step 2

Set a budget. Overspending will leave you in financial trouble when you return home.

  3. Step 3

Gather information about your destination, including hotel reviews and brochures regarding entertainment in the area.

  4. Step 4

Book transportation to and from your honeymoon destination. You can drive if you want, but flying or taking a train is much preferred.

  5. Step 5

Make hotel reservations. About a week before you leave, call to confirm these reservations.

  6. Step 6

Plan a few special activities. You don't want your honeymoon to feel too tourist-like, but getting some tickets to special events will keep your honeymoon fun and romantic.

  7. Step 7

Pack your personal belongings before the wedding so that you're ready to go without much hassle.

  8. Step 8

Make sure your paperwork is in order. You may need a passport or visa if you are leaving the country, and in some cases, you'll need special vaccinations. Travel agencies can help you with passports and learning about special requirements at the destination.

  9. Step 9

Leave contact information with someone you trust so you can be reached in the case of an emergency.

  10. Step 10

    Hire someone to housesit.

  11. Step 11

Make arrangements for your wedding gifts to be transported to your home while you are on your honeymoon.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tell people you are on your honeymoon. You'll often be offered special deals or services.
  • Consider working with a travel agent to make sure that every last detail is planned perfectly.
  • To prevent travel woes, stay in a hotel room in town for your wedding night and leave for your honeymoon the next day or later that week.
