When one of a pair of lovebirds dies, it is all you can do to prevent the other from becoming ill or dying itself.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bird Toys
  1. Step 1

Purchase some sturdy wooden bird toys that are non-toxic to lovebirds.

  2. Step 2

Place the toys into the birdcage, evenly spaced out.

  3. Step 3

Spend all your free time talking to the bird and whistling to him.

  4. Step 4

Make sure you take extra care of the bird, making sure he always has fresh water, bird seed and fresh chopped salad and fruit. Millet sprays are also a good treat when fed in moderation.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the living bird is female she will be harder to care for.
  • If you want to introduce another bird to him/her, seek your vets advice first.

on 5/25/2007 I think, that a bird that has had a mate most all of her life, deserves to get another mate real soon after the first one passed away.Real soon.No toys can replace a living companion.Get the new mate, and keep him/her in a cage next to the lonely one for a few days or a week,to let them get used to each other. Then move the new mate in.Some toys may come in handy at this time,to get them something to concentrate combined efforts on,and form a bond. This way the period of lonelyness will not have time to make the bird sick and depressed.New adventures, and new love, will keep them happy :)
