How to Change the Screen Setup Settings on the Sony DVP-S9000ES CD/DVD Player

You can easily change the screen setup settings (such as the screen saver, background color and which picture appears on your startup screen) on your Sony DVP-S9000ES CD/DVD player. Here's how.

Things You’ll Need:

• Sony DVP-S9000ES CD/DVD player

Choose the TV Type

1. Select "TV Type" under the "Screen Setup" menu.
2. Choose the aspect ratio of the TV you plan to connect to the unit.
3. Choose "4.3 Letter Box" for a normal 4.3-screen TV player. This will give you a wide picture with bands on the upper and lower part of the screen.
4. Or choose "4.3 Pan Scan," also for a normal 4.3-screen TV player. This will give you a wide picture on the entire screen, cutting the sides of the picture off.
5. Select "16:9 / 4:3 Wide Mode" for a widescreen TV or a regular TV with a wide mode function. For the latter, this will give you a wide picture with bands on the upper and lower part of the screen.

Activate or Deactivate the Screen Saver

6. Select "Screen Saver" from the "Screen Setup" menu.
7. Choose "On." This will make the screen saver appear on the screen when you leave the player or the remote in pause or stop mode for 15 minutes. The screen saver will also appear when you play a CD for 15 minutes. This will protect the screen from damage.
8. Turn off the screen saver by selecting "Off."

Choose the Background Picture or Color

9. Select "Background" from the "Screen Setup" menu. This can be done in the stop mode or while playing a CD.
10. Choose "Jacket Picture" to display a still picture of the CD's jacket on the screen background. (This is possible only if the jacket picture is recorded on the CD).
11. Display your favorite picture in the background by selecting "Picture Memory."
12. Choose "Graphics" to display a preset picture on the background.
13. Set the background color by choosing "Blue" or "Black."

Choose the Startup Screen

14. Select "Startup Screen" from the "Screen Setup" menu. This will give you a startup image when you turn on the player.
15. Choose "Standard" to get the default startup screen in the player's memory.
16. Make your favorite picture the startup screen by finding the picture and then selecting "Picture Memory."

Adjust the Black Level

17. Select "Black Level" from the "Screen Setup" menu to adjust the picture when dark areas are too prominent or when the picture becomes whitish.
18. Choose "On" to set the black level of the signal to the standard level.
19. Select "Off" to minimize the standard black level. Do this when the picture is too white.

Tips & Warnings

• Your unit will choose "4.3 Letter Box" or "4.3 Pan Scan" automatically, depending on the DVD you put in.
• To save a picture in the memory, press "Picture Memory" on the remote.
• The memory can store only one picture at a time.
• When you save a new picture in the memory, the already-stored picture will be deleted automatically.
• Some DVDs may not allow saving of some pictures.
