How to Enjoy an Outdoor Concert in Cape May, New Jersey

Take a break from visiting New Jersey's Cape May National Historic District and enjoy an outdoor concert in the area. The Cape May County Park might be the place, or check out the Cape May Jazz Festival at venues along the beachfront.

1. Scout the outdoor concert location ahead of time, especially if you are visiting from out of town. See the Resources section below for links to concert schedules and venues.
2. Find a parking location before the outdoor concert. If you stay in one of the many bed and breakfasts in the Cape May area, you may be in walking distance of the concert.
3. Plan your wardrobe accordingly. The Jersey shore enjoys relatively mild temperatures for most of the spring and fall, but the summer can be quite warm.
4. Fill a cooler with some ice, plenty of water and a few cool and delicious snacks to help you enjoy the day outdoors. If the concert you attend is near the beach, pack trash bags to haul your garbage out.
5. Bring sunscreen and bug repellent. Swatting at mosquitoes and feeling your skin cook off your bones is not conducive to a good time at an outdoor concert.
6. Take a beach chair with you if seating is not provided. Some outdoor venues near the beach rent chairs for your convenience.

Tips & Warnings

• Get tickets early for the Cape May Jazz Festival because shows sell out quickly. Also, if you plan on staying in a bed and breakfast, make your reservations early.
• Consider adding a nature walk along the beaches in addition to the concert. Local organizations host nature walks several times a month among the dune meadows.
