How to Install a Dimmer Switch for a Chandelier

A dimmer switch is easy to install and can help keep your light at just the right level. Follow these steps to install a dimmer switch in your home.

Things You'll Need:

• Screwdriver
• New switch and cover

1. Turn off the power to the area in which you will be working.

2. Unscrew the switch cover plate and remove it.

3. Pull the old switch out carefully to expose the wires.

4. Unscrew the wire nuts to remove the wires.

5. Take the old switch to the store to get a replacement that will fit perfectly. It should have the same number and type of wires. You will also need a new cover to fit the dimmer.

6. Back home, reconnect the wires from the wall to the dimmer switch.

7. Once the wires are firmly attached, mount the switch back in the wall and replace the new cover.

8. Screw the cover in place and turn the power back on.
