A ceiling fan can bring comfort to a room. This guide will walk you through installing a ceiling fan anywhere in your home.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ladder
  • Power screwdriver
  • Tools recommended by your instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn off the power to the area in which you are working.

  2. Step 2

Remove the existing fixture and disconnect the wiring.

  3. Step 3

If possible, you should install a 2x4 between the ceiling joists to support the workbox and the weight of the fan. This can be done from the attic.

  4. Step 4

If Step 3 is not possible, then install a metal brace from the room below through the hole from the fixture. The workbox should then be attached to the brace.

  5. Step 5

Assemble the fan according to your directions, and then attach the mount to the workbox. You will have to connect the wiring as well, according to the directions that came with your fan.

  6. Step 6

Install the canopy over the mounting bracket then attach the fan blades.

  7. Step 7

Turn the circuit back on to test your work only after unit has been checked by an electrician. This will prevent dangerous fires or other wiring mishaps.
