Things You'll Need:
- Poker chips
- Pens and pencils
- Bowl for placing bets
- Printed sheets of betting categories and stars up for awards
-
Step 1
Type and print out a list of the major nomination races in the Academy Awards before the party. Include the big races, such as Best Actor/Actress, Best Animated Film and Best Director.
-
Step 2
Copy enough lists for all of your guests.
-
Step 3
Hand out a pile of 20 poker chips, crackers or candies to each of your guests, including yourself, before the awards show starts.
-
Step 4
Give guests a reference list and a way to mark their picks. Supply pens and pencils.
-
Step 5
Have your guests bet on who will win before each particular category award. Have them mark it on their sheet so no one fudges the rules.
-
Step 6
Have your guests place as many chips as they wish for that bet into a central bowl.
-
Step 7
Divide the winnings among everyone who won for that category with each award. Luckily, there is a lot of time between awards.
-
Step 8
Present the guest with the most chips with an award at the end of the ceremony.

on 2/22/2009 Steps 6 and 7 are flawed. You will have to keep track of the individual bets in Step 6 in order to properly distribute the winnings in Step 7. In other words, you will need to calculate the winnings based on the how much each winner placed in their bets. You can calculate by percentages or use an odds system.
