Finding a hairstyle for fine hair that gives body and bounce may sound like a mission impossible, but it's not. With the combination of color and the right cut, your fine hair will go from flat to fabulous.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    The Color

  1. Step 1

This color works best on people whose natural hair color is light brown or lighter and whose complexion is fair or light.

  2. Step 2

Start with a base color of medium honey blonde. This shade is warm and adds color to a pale complexion.

  3. Step 3

Add platinum highlights for greater depth of hair color. Concentrate ribbons of thin highlights around the face to brighten and frame it. Be sure to do the highlights in thin sections to ensure a blend with the overall color rather than pronounced and chunky highlights.

  4. Step 4

Add highlights sparingly to the rest of the hair to blend the lighter front with the sides and back.

  5. The Cut

  6. Step 1

This hairstyle for fine hair relies on subtle layers for bounce and movement. It works best on hair with a fine to medium texture that is naturally straight or only slightly wavy.

  7. Step 2

The hair should be 2 to 3 inches past the shoulders for best results.

  8. Step 3

The hair is cut in a long bob-type style. Subtle layers are then added to the last 2 inches to allow for more body when styling.

  9. Step 4

Next, layers are added around the face. These layers are shorter, starting at approximately chin length and blending into the length and longer layers. They allow for maximum movement around the face and show off waves created by hot rollers or large curling irons.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adding volumizing products and using hot rollers or curling irons while styling will make fine hair look much thicker and fuller.
  • Don’t attempt the double process color at home on your own. Color will not lift color, so the only way to add platinum highlights to honey-blonde colored hair is to have a professional stylist bleach out and then tone the highlighted hair.
