Things You'll Need:
- Computer with Internet access
-
Step 1
Search the Internet for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra's Web site. The orchestra plays outdoor concerts in a variety of venues throughout each of the New York City boroughs, Long Island and New Jersey. Type "concerts in the park" in the search box to view the upcoming concerts.
-
Step 2
Check starting times. Although most concerts begin at 8 p.m., starting times can vary. If you want choice seats, plan on arriving at least two hours before the curtain lifts.
-
Step 3
One of the most popular Philharmonic Orchestra concert sites is the bandshell located on the northern section of the Great Lawn in Manhattan's Central Park (between 79th and 85th Streets). Huge crowds begin to gather for this event as early as three hours before curtain. You'll find friends on beach blankets making a night of it and enjoying a picnic dinner before the show.
-
Step 4
Other popular venues for these concerts include: Prospect Park in Brooklyn; Cunningham Park in Queens; Snug Harbor in Staten Island; Heckscher State Park in East Islip, Long Island; Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx; and PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.
-
Step 5
Purchase tickets. Tickets are available on the Web site (see Resources below). You can also order them by fax, mail or phone. If you want to purchase tickets in person, go to Avery Fischer Hall in Manhattan.
