I can't believe I've been struggling all these years with duvet covers and pillowcases by shaking duvets and pillows into them. I recently had two different friends enlighten me with the EASY way to put them on.
Spread out the empty duvet cover, with the open bottom at the foot of the bed, and undo the buttons.
Step2
Grab the corner at the top of the cover with your "outside" hand.
Step3
With your "inside" hand, reach INSIDE the duvet cover and grab that top corner and pull it all the way through the cover until it's poking out the bottom.
Step4
Grab the corner of the duvet itself and place it right next to that "poking out" corner. With your "outside" hand, pull both the corner of the cover and the duvet itself--you're now pulling the duvet up inside the cover, holding on to both it and the corner at the same time.
Step5
Once the duvet has been pulled all the way up into the cover, button the buttons.
Tips & Warnings
This is much easier with two people, one on each side of the bed.
You can button the buttons so they "disappear" inside, making for a more seamless look. See picture in step 5.
Keep the button-end down at the foot of the bed so the sleeper isn't bothered by buttons on his or her face.

hikernb, thank you very much for this article. Finally, after a year of having a duvet, I finally picked up a cover tonight. I didn't know which end went which way (buttons at top or bottom); thanks to your article, I now know, and putting the duvet in the cover was a piece of cake!

on 11/17/2007 I just turn the cover inside out, grab the top two duvet corners with the corners of the cover and shake the duvet into the cover.
