    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Blow-dryer
    • Good-quality hair extensions
    • Hair-care products
    • Flat iron
    1. Ashlee Simpson's Long Hairstyle

      • 1

This long hairstyle works best on wavy or curly hair that is medium to thick in texture.

      • 2

For those with short hair, or hair that is thin, try using the new user-friendly hair extensions out on the market. These pieces clip onto your existing hair and create instant length and thickness. Not coincidentally, Ashlee's older sister, Jessica Simpson, offers her own line of hair extensions.

      • 3

Have long layers sliced into your hair. Ask your stylist to use a straight razor, not scissors, to allow for better blending with the long length.

      • 4

Ask your stylist to keep your bangs full and cut them just past eyebrow length. Razor the ends as well to avoid blunt ends and create a wispy look.

      • 5

Apply a curl-enhancing mousse to damp hair and use your hands to scrunch curls into place. Keep your blow-dryer on a low setting to avoid frizz.

      • 6

Use a small dab of styling wax to tame any flyaway hairs. Coat your hands with the wax and scrunch your hands into your hair to carefully distribute the product.

      Ashlee Simpson's Short Hairstyle

      • 1

Ask your stylist to cut your hair into a chin-length bob style.

      • 2

Have your stylist razor-cut the ends to create choppy layers and break up the bluntness of the typical bob. This creates a more modern, tousled look.

      • 3

Add extra layering around the front to frame the face and avoid a boxy look.

      • 4

Keep bangs long and razor the ends to create a wispy look.

      • 5

Apply volumizing mousse into damp hair and blow-dry with a large, round brush.

      • 6

Start at the roots and work your way to the ends of one small section of hair at a time. Pull the brush outward at the roots to create lift and volume.

      • 7

Once all your hair is dried, use a flat iron to smooth any wayward layers. Simply close the flat iron plates on a section of hair an inch or so above the "trouble spot" and slowly glide the flat iron down the section of hair. Touch up the rest of the hair as needed.

      • 8

Define your layers with a small amount of pomade. Coat your fingers with the pomade and "pull" out pieces of layers throughout the front of your hairstyle. The pomade will define the hair it coats.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Whenever possible, choose human hair extensions over synthetic. They do cost more, but they style better and look more realistic.

    • Be sure to read and follow the care tips that come with your hair extensions. Failure to follow the care instructions can result in a ruined hairpiece.

    • This hairstyle won't work for those with round faces. If you have a round-shaped face, wear this hairstyle in a longer version that is cut lower than your jawline.
