Think about the type of job you want. You can't be captain, but you will find positions in accommodations, recreation, food service, maintenance, entertain and health care. Choose a job that fits your background and experience.

Decide where you would like to go on a cruise. There are cruise ships that go to nearly every corner of the oceans. Research cruise ship itineraries online. However, understand that you will have no say on where the company assigns you.

Check the perks. For one thing, you will definitely receive medical coverage; maritime law requires it. You are also entitled to free accommodations, meals and services (laundry, for example). Most cruise lines offer free air travel to and from your home city. Many offer ship store discounts and travel discounts for you and your family.

Visit Web sites devoted to cruise line employment. Most cruise line have their own Web sites, but you can also search through the site called CruiseShip.net (see Resources below).

Submit a résumé. Gear it toward the position you are seeking.
