Working at a hotel over summer vacation can give you the skills you need to enhance your resume as well as your bank account. Here's how to find a job.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Think about what type of hotel you would like to work at. High-end hotels offer more specialized jobs but may require more experience than budget hotels.

  2. Step 2

Consider working out of town. Big cities and tourist destinations will have a wide choice of hotels.

  3. Step 3

Choose the type of job you'd like. Hotels may need waitstaff, reception-desk workers, office workers, cleaners and administrative personnel. Some managers of the fanciest hotels in the world started their careers as bellhops or behind an information desk.

  4. Step 4

Research the job online and find out what it entails. Jobs with the same title may be different from hotel to hotel, so call and ask what a position entails before applying.

  5. Step 5

Research hotels. Many hotels have Websites that include a brief history of the establishment and give you a sense of what type of clientele it caters to, invaluable information that will help you frame questions for your interview.

  6. Step 6

Create and send a résumé with a brief cover letter. Gear the résumé to the specific hotel you're applying to, using what you learned through your research. Note that some hotels may have Web sites with job applications that you can fill online or print out and send.
