Step 1
Decide what type of summer camp you would like to work at. Many summer camps specialize in a certain area; for example, there are religious camps, extreme-sports camps and camps for kids with special needs. Do some research on the Internet.
-
Step 2
Decide if you want to work locally (if that is possible) or go somewhere new. Summer camps are usually located in the mountains, forests or lakeside areas. You may be able to work in a different state, or even a different country.
-
Step 3
Choose a few areas you'd like to spend your summer in and look for summer camps in those areas. Check the local and state government sites for information.
-
Step 4
Choose a few camps and find out what they offer their counselors. Ask about pay and living accommodations.
-
Step 5
After researching a few camps, pick one or two. Find out how to apply—you might have to send a résumé or simply fill out an application. Be prepared to call the camp organizer if possible.
-
Step 6
Send a résumé and/or fill out an application. Try to gear your résumé to what a camp organizer would like to see in a camp counselor.
