Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Computer with Internet access
Step1
Price your choices of transportation. All modes have their benefits. Check with a travel agent or travel Web sites. Major airlines offer good discounts, and flying could be comparable to driving. If purchasing airline tickets, put them in a safe place.
Step2
Decide on what sights you want to see while in Chicago. Order a visitor’s guide. Some attractions offer discounts during the week, and some need reservations. There are plenty of attractions to keep you busy.
Step3
Research accommodations in the city. If you belong to a travel club, see when they offer discounts at any particular hotel chains. Try to get a hotel that is close to the majority of the sights that you want to visit. After you make your reservation, put your confirmation number with your other vacation documents.
Step4
Study the maps in your visitor’s guide. You will want to have a general idea of how to get around the city. You will want to know some of the cross streets, around the attractions that you are going to see.
Step5
Dress accordingly. Average highs in Chicago are in the low 80’s and lows are in the low 60’s in the summer. If you plan on visiting anywhere that might require formal dress, plan to pack for this.
Step6
Ask a trusted neighbor to look after your house while you are gone. Make sure that they have an emergency number to get a hold of you. If you are not able to stop your mail and newspaper, have them keep these for you. If boarding your pets is not an option, look into a pet sitter.
