Most cities have local television channels. They offer internship opportunities for all kinds of exciting jobs you can do during your summer break. You can get into photography, editing, accounting, marketing and production assistant to name a few. It is an exciting business where you can learn quite a lot, and meet a lot of interesting people. Research the local television stations on the Internet.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
Step1
Go to your search engine, type in your city, and/or local television channels. It will give you Web sites to all the local channels in your city. Choose one and go into it. On that page of the Web site it will give different tabs to click on. Check for a list of job opportunities.
Step2
Research each of the local stations to see if they offer internship opportunities. Read each position that is available to see which you would be interested in doing for the summer. There may be other positions that interest you. Check each of them out. Each usually gives you a contact name and an e-mail address.
Step3
If you don’t already have one done, make a cover sheet and resume. You may want to make a different cover sheet for each of the positions you are going to apply for. Take time with your cover letter, as its one purpose is to get your prospective employer to read your resume. You want to make a short introduction, followed by a paragraph as how you would fit in with their company, followed by a short paragraph.
Step4
Go over your resume to make sure there are no gaps in your employment record. You want to fill in those gaps as to what you were doing at that time. For example; full-time parent, volunteer, student or traveled abroad, or whatever you were doing at that time.
Step5
Proof read both your cover letter and your resume. When you feel everything is perfect, e-mail to the contact person for that position. Remember to send the right cover sheet that you did for that position.

Tips & Warnings

  • Research the positions you applied for to make sure you do have the qualifications for each position.
  • Make sure you have the contact persons name spelled right and you have the correct e-mail address.
