Looking for a summer job at a theme restaurant? The best approach to finding any job is to do your research first. Is there a themed restaurant near you? If not, is there one that would be convenient for you to relocate to? For instance, do you have family or friends that would be willing to house and support you until you got that first paycheck?

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Visit the restaurant of your choice. Talk to the employees there. Are they satisfied with their working conditions and management? During slow periods the management may even allow you to talk with kitchen staff. Current employees can be a wealth of information for you. Be dressed and groomed to interview even if you have not made a decision yet.
Step2
Take a close look at the costumes/uniforms. Most restaurants, themed restaurants in particular, will require you to wear a uniform or costume of some sort. Will you be willing to do this, and would you feel comfortable wearing the costume of the restaurant you are considering?
Step3
You have decided what area of the restaurant you want to work in, it is time to contact the manager or human resources department and set up an appointment. Be prepared with a resume as well as a cover letter, even though many of these businesses do not require one.
Step4
Practice your interviewing skills with a friend or relative. It is a good idea to take these practice sessions seriously and even dress the part. You don’t want to go to an interview in a new pinstripe suit and learned too late that it is uncomfortable.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hair is an issue in food service. Show the employer that you are comfortable wearing longer hair up by showing up for the interview with it nicely groomed and off the shoulders and neck.
  • Restaurant work can be taxing. It is often slow for most of your shift and you will use this time for the boring tasks of cleaning and stocking. Some restaurants will draft all the employees to wrap silver during slow periods. Suddenly you find that you barely have a second to remember to breath.
