Find the other smoke detectors in your home. This will help you with the placement of your new smoke detectors.

Determine the placement of your smoke detector. There are various areas in which your smoke detector can go.

For kitchen placement. Be sure not to place the detector close to the stove or oven but close enough to it that if something were to occur, it would pick up the heat and smoke quickly.

For furnace room placement, place the detector away from any heating or air duct within the room.

For attached garage placement. The entry or hallway between the garage and house tends to be a good place to put the detector.

Install the detector. Most detectors will come supplied with mounts for the wall. Follow the instructions to mount the detector.
