Create and/or update your resume. Your resume provides potential employers a snapshot into your work history and career goals. Be sure to continually update your resume with any new skills that you've learned that could be beneficial to the electrician's trade.

Locate and research potential electricians to work with. Using online or local newspaper sources can provide you with information on any electrician who is interested in or offering a position of help for the summer. You can also go around to various companies to see if they would like to take on apprentices for the summer.

Begin applying for positions. This can be done in person with an electrician, the company they work for, or you can go online and apply to the company's website if necessary.

Contact the electrician. If you applied and haven't heard anything in 2-3 weeks, contacting the electrician may be your best bet. This will give you an opportunity to talk with them, show your interest, and also allow them to see your consistency in your pursuit of the job.
