Step 1
Create/update your resume. Keeping an updated resume on file will prepare you for job opportunities as soon as they are available. Be sure to keep updating your skills and abilities section as you acquire more skills in your specific field.

Research various lab technician options. Depending upon the kind of lab work you want to do, this will allow you get a better idea of what jobs are available, whether they are paid or volunteer, their location and the specific type of lab work you would be performing. Places to do job searches include the Help Wanted section of newspapers and the Internet.

Begin applying for work. After finding various job opportunities, apply at the jobs you are interested in by going in person, filling out applications online, or sending in previously acquired applications.

Contact potential employers. After they’ve had your application for 2-3 weeks and you haven’t heard from them, contact them by either stopping in their office or calling them. This will show them that you are interested in the job and could boast your potential for the job.

Go on interviews. Some places may have open interviews and if so, go on them. Even if you’ve turned in your application prior to these open calls, this will still appeal to them with your interest and consistency.
