Step1
Decide which of the three campgrounds you would like to camp in.
Step2
Watch Hill Campground is open from mid-May through mid-October. You will find one group site and 26 individual tent sites. You must take a private boat or ferry to this campground. Expect a mile walk from the dock to the campground. You will be within walking distance to many accommodations such as bathhouses, a visitor center, general store and walking trails. The phone number for Watch Hill Campground is (631) 567-6664.
Step3
The Watch Hill Group Campground is also open from mid-May through mid-October. There is one group campsite that will hold up to 40 people. Again, you will need to arrange for ferry or private boat transportation to the island. Call (631) 567-6664 for registration information.
Step4
The Wilderness Area Camping is open year-round. However, the best times to camp in this location are late fall through early spring. Otherwise, you will be faced with ticks, hea, and mosquitoes. You will be camping in the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness area. This location is on a first-come, first-served basis. You will need to obtain a permit at the Watch Hill Visitor Center when Watch Hill Campground is open. Or, if you will be wilderness camping in the off-season, obtain the camping permit from the Wilderness Visitor Center when an employee is present.
