How to Make a Garbage Can Turkey

Have you ever thought to yourself, "what can I cook in that garbage can?" Well here is the article you have been waiting for. This is the best turkey you will ever eat. Healthier than a fried turkey, quicker and less mess than an oven baked turkey (leaves the oven space for other things). We enjoy making our turkey on camping trips. Those who see us wonder what we are doing and usually ask. They start as doubters when we say we are cooking a 14# turkey in 1 1/4 hours. Then they hit the Home Depot for their new garbage cans. I hope you will enjoy the pictures we took last summer. They clearly show you how to do this. I have added some instructions as you go along. ENJOY!! Please comment to me when you have tried it. I'd love to hear from you http://wupazz2.blogspot.com/

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2x2 stake 24 inches long or longer cut to a point on one end
  • New galvanized garbage can (you can re-use this for your next turkey)
  • Heavy duty aluminum foil
  • 2 pairs pliers to lift can after cooked
  • 2 - 20# bags of charcoal

The first thing you will do is rub down your thawed or fresh turkey with the rub of your choice. Rub it good, inside and out. Let it sit in the refrigerator overnight to marinade. Save some rub to add right before you cook the bird.
