Things You'll Need:

    Consider Booking the Snow Train

  1. Step 1

Book tickets online at the VIA Rail Canada Web site (see Resources below) or by calling 888-VIA-RAIL.

  2. Step 2

Book the Snow Train to Alberta. Travel packages are often available to various ski resorts and destinations, which you can book through VIA Rail Canada.

  3. Step 3

Protect your belongings. Saskatchewan stations sell plastic covers and cardboard boxes to protect any sports equipment you plan to check as luggage.

  4. Step 4

Take advantage of the amenities. The Snow Train features a special first-class designation called "Silver & Blue" complete with gourmet meals, personal attendants and exclusive access to the much-hyped Park car.

  5. Step 5

Connect with the Canadian train in Alberta train stations. They span Canada from east to west. You can travel beyond Alberta with a variety of itineraries to choose from.

  6. Step 6

Pack your sports equipment! The Snow Train allows you to check skis, bikes, canoes and masts and sailboards.

  7. Consider Booking the Canadian Train

  8. Step 1

Book tickets for travel during any of the 3 days a week the Canadian operates. You can check the VIA Rail website for special deals or just phone in your reservation.

  9. Step 2

Stay overnight. Choose a destination in Alberta that's a little off the beaten path. Sleep contentedly in your sleeping car bed or choose a private bedroom.

  10. Step 3

Have a cocktail under the stars in Alberta. The Skyview car offers alcoholic beverages to help you relax while you journey toward your destination.

  11. Step 4

Take the Canadian to connect with other trains. In Alberta, you can hop on board a route that services the Pacific coast like the Malahat and Skeena trains.
