How to Find Train Times for Irish Rail

Most visitors to the mountains, bogs and coastlines of Ireland come through England. Once you're in Ireland, traveling the island by car is your best bet. While there are trains available, they're expensive and don't cover the whole country. If you do want to try the trains, follow these steps to start planning your trip on "Iarnrod Eireann" (Irish Rail).

  • A computer with Internet access and a printer

    Find Train Times for Irish Railnet

  1. Step 1

    Find train times by visiting the Irish Rail Web site (see Resources below) or by calling Irish Rail's customer information line at 011 (+353) 1850 366 222.

  2. Step 2

    Review the "Inner City Timetable" routes or "Routes by Station" departure tables.

  3. Step 3

    Select the route you need by clicking on the link with the route name.

  4. Step 4

    Review the PDF printed version of the time tables.

  5. Step 5

    Print the schedule information you need.

    Pack lightly and plan to purchase any additional items you need. It's always easier to buy a new outfit than to throw an existing one away.

  • Take extra care to protect passports and valuables from pickpockets.
  • Beware when you use Automatic Teller Machines (ATM's). There's been a recent increase in the use of skimmers to record credit card details at ATM's.
  • It's difficult to find automatic rental cars. Most are stick-shift models. Turning right on red is not permitted. Ireland is a left-lane driving country.
  • Individuals who break Irish laws are subject to being expelled from the country, imprisoned and/or fined, regardless of knowledge of the law.
