Hop over to Victoria, Canada, located on Vancouver Bay. A small, beautiful town that relies heavily on tourism, Victoria is a charming destination set in natural beauty.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Select Your Accommodations in Victoria, Canada

  1. Step 1

Reserve your chosen lodgings through Tourism Victoria. Call (800) 663-3883 or visit their Web site (see the Resources section below).

  2. Step 2

Stay by the water in a hotel near the Inner Harbor. The location is perfect, since it's near most major attractions, transportation links and downtown Victoria. Try for a hotel that has a deal on parking if you've driven in. Overnight parking in Victoria can be expensive.

  3. Step 3

Discover budget hostels in Victoria. Whether you're a lone backpacker or traveling with a family, Canadian hostels provide accommodations to fit your needs. Rates are cheap, and even cheaper if you stay a week or longer.

  4. Step 4

Head out to a farmhouse. Victoria has stately, tasteful, semiprivate accommodations in pastoral settings. Prices vary from place to place, but a generous breakfast is usually included in the bargain.

  5. Determine Your Transportation

  6. Step 1

Schedule a flight to Victoria International Airport, just a short distance from the city. Travelers may have to stop in Vancouver first, however, since Victoria International is a smaller airport.

  7. Step 2

Ferry across the Canada straits for the most scenic entry into Victoria. The three ports of call are Inner Harbor, Town of Sidney and Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.

  8. Step 3

Travel by motor coach from Vancouver or Seattle. Ferry travel is included with the price, making it a cheap way in.

  9. Know Your Destination

  10. Step 1

Take the time to walk the city of Victoria, Canada. Guided tours are available, but self-guided ones often lead you to make little discoveries of your own. The city is relatively small and very beautiful. This is cheap but deeply satisfying entertainment.

  11. Step 2

Take to the sky and see Victoria by air. There is no better way to appreciate the landscape than from above. It may be the most expensive thing you'll do on your trip, but it will likely be the most memorable.

  12. Step 3

Wax up your boards--snowboards and surfboards, that is. Victoria is near to some terrific skiing and surfing. Depending on the time of year, you might be able to do both in one day. The seasons here tend to be milder than the rest of Canada.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose lodgings that display an "Approved Accommodation" sign from the Tourism Board.
  • Be healthy. Though rarely enforced, immigration officials have the right to refuse entry to anyone who looks like they may pose a public health risk.
