Tips & Warnings
Think ahead and carry extra cash while traveling. Almost every airport in Africa charges an additional departure tax of up to $30. It must be paid in cash.
Put your money away. It is not necessary to tip, though it is highly appreciated by those living in Africa. Ten percent is standard for hotel workers, special services and those rare instances when expressing gratitude can best be done monetarily.
Protect your health. Don't travel to Africa without getting cholera and yellow fever vaccinations, as well as malaria pills. These diseases are common throughout Africa.
Travel at all times with your International Vaccinations Certificate.
The tap water is considered safe, but use common sense. Only eat only food that has been well cooked.
Expect delays. Delays are frequent in Africa.
Use caution. Do not swim in bodies of water, as you might contract bilharzia.
