Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Book Your Ticket on Air Malawi
Step1
Book your ticket online at the Air Malawi Web site (see "Resources"). Enter your requested flight information, reserve your ticket and purchase it at the airport using cash, check or purchase order.
Step2
Make your reservation over the phone by calling Air Malawi at 011 (+265) 01 621535. All phone numbers include the United States international prefix "011." When calling internationally from outside the United States, substitute "011" with "00." You will not have to hold your reservation with a credit card, but know it is expected you are reserving a ticket you intend to purchase later. Also know that after you reserve your ticket, you are required to re-confirm your reservation ahead of time or you will lose your seat on the plane.
Step3
Purchase your ticket from a travel agent. When you buy your tickets through a company that specializes in travel, you are upping your odds that you understand everything about your reservation. This peace of mind can be worth the extra cost of the service.
Determine Your Departure or Arrival City
Step1
Decide where you want to travel. Air Malawi's domestic flights service 7 cities, with most of the travel originating from Club Makokola or Blantyre.
Step2
Book your travel out of Nairobi, Kenya or Johannesberg for a direct connection to international destinations. This is not the only option available. However, it might save you some money to try and fly out of these larger cities.
Understand the Policies of Air Malawi
Step1
Confirm your reservation! Your reservation on Air Malawi is subject to cancellation if you do not call to re-confirm your trip at least 72 hours before your flight.
Step2
Personalize your meal, but do so ahead of time. Malawi offers the gesture of personalized meals such as Asian Vegetarian or Kosher, but these must be booked in advance.
Step3
Check in 1 hour in advance for domestic travel and 2 hours in advance for international travel. Check-in is closed 30 minutes prior to local departures and 40 minutes prior to international departures.
