Tips & Warnings
All phone numbers include the United States international prefix "011." When calling internationally from outside the United States, check which prefix to use. All country codes are within parentheses and begin with a "+" sign.
Greet everyone you see while in Ghana, which will make the already friendly locals bend over backwards to make your trip memorable.
Avoid eating with your left hand while in Ghana, which can be considered rude, even though Ghanians are getting more tolerant of tourists.
Stay away from the local "chop houses" in Ghana, which offer very cheap food that's not up to modern health standards.
Schedule vaccinations for meningitis, malaria and hepatitis with your doctor at least one month prior to your trip to Ghana. Also remember to bring enough malaria tablets to last your entire trip.
Beware of eating fruit or vegetables in Ghana that have been washed in unpurified water. Your immune system is not likely to be familiar with the local bacteria, and you may get ill from exposure to even relatively small amounts of the local water.
