Reserve your seats online using the Egyptian National Railways Web site (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Call the Egyptian National Railway's Port Said branch for reservations at 011 (+20) 21 861.
-
Step 3
Book your tickets on site at the Alexandria Station. If you choose this option, you may be faced with long lines, especially during the summer months.
-
Step 4
Choose to travel via express train. Express trains offer air-conditioned first and second-class seating. Opt for first-class seating for optimum comfort.
-
Step 5
Only one express train departs the Alexandria station daily. It leaves around 4:40 p.m. and arrives in Port Said around 11:10 p.m.
-
Step 1
Pack a swimsuit. As its name suggests, the coastal town of Port Said is primarily a port. It serves as an access point for ships on their way to the Suez Canal. The town also boasts magnificent beaches. It's a prime getaway spot for city-dwelling Egyptians eager to soak up some surf and sun.
-
Step 2
Apply for a visa via your country's Egyptian embassy. Almost all visitors to Egypt need a visa for entry. The exceptions are nationals of Malta, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
-
Step 1
Spend the day at Port Said's National Museum. There you'll get the chance to pore over artifacts from Egypt's Pharaohs. You'll also find a slew of Islamic and Coptic exhibits. Port Said's National Museum is located on Sharia Palestine.
-
Step 2
Impress your friends with some Port Said trivia. New York's Statue of Liberty was originally intended to be placed in Port Said. However, Egypt's leader at the time decided that the statue was too expensive. It was sent to New York instead.
