Tips & Warnings

  • Travel light. A single easy-to-maneuver bag will make your entire vacation more enjoyable.

  • Wear comfortable "no-wrinkle" clothing. This is especially important if you have long or overnight travel plans or a sleeper/couchette ticket.

  • Pack a camera. The memory of those sights you think you will never forget will be brightened with a photographic nudge when you return home.

  • Stay hydrated inside and out. Keep a well-sealed water bottle, lip balm and hand/body lotion with you.

  • Check the status of Ontario Northland train arrivals and departures by clicking "Train status" on the main Web site.

  • Ask about senior, child or student discounts on train tickets.

  • If you're traveling for medical appointments, for a family funeral service, in groups or as a family, you may be eligible for discounts on train tickets.

  • Arrival, departure and connection times are not guaranteed. Keep your vacation itinerary flexible to avoid problems.

  • Don't bring alcohol for personal consumption aboard trains. You're only allowed to drink alcoholic beverages bought on board.

  • Tickets bought the day of travel are sold "first come, first served." Tickets may not be available for the train you want.

  • Prepaid tickets will secure a seat but cost extra.
