How to Find Train Times for Rail Lines in Canada

If you want to explore Canada by train, you have a number of options. You can travel on Ontario Northland, VIA Rail Canada or one of the smaller scenic routes in northern British Columbia with Rocky Mountaineer Railtours. Follow these steps to start planning your trip on the train you want.

  • Computer with Internet access and printer

    Find Train Times for VIA Rail Online

  1. Step 1

    Find train times for VIA Rail by calling 613-564-8104, or by visiting their Web site (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    On the Web site, select your departure and destination cities and desired travel dates from the drop-down menus.

  3. Step 3

    Indicate the number of passengers and choose a travel class.

  4. Step 4

    Click the "Search" button and select from the options offered.

  5. Step 5

    Choose "Select and Continue" to see the departure and arrival times for each portion of your trip.

  6. Step 6

    Print out the information you need.

  8. Step 1

    Go to the Rocky Mountaineer Web site's "Departure Information" page (see Resources below).

  9. Step 2

    Select the route and schedule information you need.

  10. Step 3

    Copy or print the information.

  12. Step 1

    Go to the Ontario Northland Web site's "Rail Passenger Services" page (see Resources below).

    Select the train route you want from the links under the "Rail Passenger Services" header on the left.

    Choose "Schedules and Fares" or "Schedule" depending on the service.

    Select your origin and destination city, if necessary, and click "Submit."

    View the train departure and arrival times.

Tips & Warnings
  • The bus network in Canada is more extensive than the rail network and is considerably less expensive.
